The Stennis International Airport runway (18-36) is 8,500 feet long, 150 feet wide, grooved and lighted, with pavement strength sufficient to support passenger
and cargo aircraft.
The north-south orientation of the runway provides wind coverage of 99.74% of all winds above 13 knots (15 MPH). The runway is equipped with High Intensity Runway Lights. Runway 18 and Runway 36 operate under Visual and Instrument Flight rule conditions, and each have PAPI's installed to assist pilots in their landing approaches. The Airport has an Aircraft Control Tower, UNICOM communications and an operating AWOS-3 weather sensor system on the field. Current Instrument Approach procedures available at Stennis International Airport include the following:
Instrument approaches may utilize both the Picayune (PCU) and Gulfport (GPT) VOR's as well as local NDB's. Pilots planning instrument approaches to Stennis International Airport should contact Gulfport Approach Control at the radio frequency listed in the most current approach plates for Bay Saint Louis/Stennis International Airport. In an effort to enhance safety, improve the flexibility of Airport operations and increase accessibility to the Airport during marginal weather conditions, additional instrument approach facilities are being developed. A medium intensity approach lighting system with runway alignment indicator lights (MALSAR) is planned for this end of the runway.
